Oh 16 weeks, I'm loving you. Not only does today mark one month or so until we find out if our little one will be a boy or a girl, it has brought me back that elusive energy I've been missing since the beginning. It's weird- with Henry I felt normal almost all of the time. I haven't had any morning sickness with this pregnancy either but I have been incredibly tired and kind of depressed in those first few months. I think feeling down was a mixture of being so tired and not having the motivation to do much, but also because I think my hormones are even wackier than my first time around. I mentioned it in my first pregnancy post but my skin has been haywire, and my chest is bigger than with Henry too. Some of my friends seem to think this means I'm having a girl (more estrogen in my body!) but I'm not convinced one way or another.
This week the baby is the size of an avocado, which is funny because up until recently avocados have totally grossed me out. Guacamole is no big deal, but plain avocados? No thank you. Other than that I haven't had too many food aversions at all besides chocolate and sugary sweets not sounding too good. I can't get enough of fresh fruit though, just like with Henry!
I think I'm most excited right now to find out if we're having a boy or a girl, and start planning the nursery and all of that fun stuff. Henry will be staying in his room, and the baby will take one of the guest rooms right across the hall. Every night after tucking Henry in I can't help but think about how weird it will be to have two kiddos sleeping in their bedrooms. Surreal. And so, so exciting.
It's such a miracle to be growing a human being inside of my body- it astounds me every single day and I am beyond grateful for all of it. I could gush and gush about it, but I think I'll save some of that for another day.
And just for fun, here is my 16 week update I posted while pregnant with Henry. I love that I have all of it to look back on...and I'm also a little shocked I ever thought that was a baby belly! haha. I know this time around I'm not showing too much yet either, but I wanted to start photos anyway. I'm looking forward to documenting this pregnancy too!
Quick question- are any of you expecting? I feel like so many people are pregnant right now! Baby boom, for sure.
xoxo
Cutest little bump ever! I am expecting as well, just a couple of weeks ahead of you! We find out next week if it's a boy or a girl, we are so excited to start planning :) Congratulations again on the baby!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Shannon, and congratulations to you! I love that we're so close in our due dates. Please let me know what you're having! :)

you pointed out one of my biggest revelations of sorts this pregnancy--first time pregnant women "find" that baby bump much earlier than 2nd (or in my case 3rd) time pregnant ladies. I remember seeing someone show off their 8 week bump a few months ago on Instagram. I was like, hey, that's just your belly. But it's a big difference--that first time you it is so new and you seek out the signs to show what a change you're in. I can't remember when I started showing with my 2nd, but this 3rd took a very long time. I'm not complaining at all. I am happy to only be looking into maternity pants now that I've hit 26 weeks and my "fat jeans" aren't flattering or cutting it anymore.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder about the tiredness you and I both experienced the first trimester. You worked throughout your entire pregnancy with Henry, right? I did with my two other kids too. I was very sick with both boys, but don't remember the level of exhaustion I felt this first trimester in this pregnancy. I wonder if it's different being home now and having more time to feel tired, or if I was truly just that more beat than before.
And yes--massive baby boom. My friend Stacy kicked off the baby bonanza in my personal life with having her daughter in October. Since then, my cousin had her son in December, two friends had babies in January, two more in February, two preschool moms are due this month, another cousin is due next month, another online friend in May, I'm due in June, two friends in August, and another cousin of mine is expecting in September. Plus all of the bloggers who I don't necessarily know who are all around your time period too. Baaaaaaby boom! (ps sorry for the longest comment ever)
I don't even know where to start on this reply because we're so on the same page (as usual, haha!). I keep shaking my head at myself as I look through my old updates. They're so entertaining but I can only imagine what my veteran-mama friends were thinking as I was posting those "belly" pics! Too funny.
DeleteAnd yes, I did work through the whole pregnancy- right up until the last week. This level of exhaustion is so crazy but like you, I can't figure out if it's because I HAD to get up everyday and leave for work and be with 150+ teenagers all day that I just didn't notice it. I am thinking that might be the case!
Yay for us and our babies on the way!
xoxo
I've been reading your blog since Henry was a baby, dreaming of the day I'd get to experience it for myself! I am now 30 weeks pregnant with my first, a little girl, and I am so excited that you are having your 2nd!
ReplyDeleteDefinite baby boom going on at the moment! I feel like everybody I know is pregnant!
Oh my gosh! CONGRATS to you! So exciting. I also remember reading pregnancy blogs before getting pregnant with H and daydreaming of the day it would happen. And now you're SO close to meeting your little one!
DeleteBig hugs to you Lauren!
xoxo
I'm almost 9 weeks! We had an ultrasound yesterday and it's so so exciting! Congratulations to you!
ReplyDeleteYay! So exciting! Baby boomin'!

It really does feel like a baby boom. We are expecting our 2nd child, a boy (we have a 15 month old daughter) in June. My best friend is due in November, and my pediatrician is due in October. Congratulations on your new addition! Babies are in the air for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt's so in the air! I think it's so exciting. I love having so many friends pregnant with me at the same time. And June is so soon- congrats to you guys! :)
DeleteSo exciting, and I love that picture of you! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet friend! <3
DeleteAdorable little baby bump! Good luck!

Thanks so much! :)
DeleteWhat an adorable photo :) Congrats again on your new addition! I'm not expecting, but a lot of my friends are. I cannot wait to meet all of the little ones that I will inevitably spoil rotten and love to bits :)
ReplyDeletesuch a sweet post! I am not pregnant but want to be...it will happen when it's supposed to happen :).
ReplyDeleteCutest little baby bump! I have been following your blog for many years, and I remember how tiny and cute little Henry was when he was just a little bump. So exciting to see another addition to the Hampton family! And by the way, I LOVE that outfit!!! You have the cutest style, pregnant or not. Is it a dress or a skirt and top? If you don't mind me asking, where can a girl find such a pretty thing? Anyway, congratulations to you and your beautiful family!!! <3
ReplyDeletecongrats again!!! yes i am expecting also! due the beginning of september, i also know soooo many people who are also pregnant right now!
ReplyDeleteIm due September 14th with my first! Everyone I know is pregnant! There must have been something going around at that time ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I am so excited to follow along with you during this!
you are so cute! I was feeling exactly you were in my first trimester, so I'm saying girl! I am thrilled for your growing family, dani!
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable, congratulations!

You look beautiful, and congrats on the second baby!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a few weeks older than Henry and I'm due with number two in June. I am SO excited, and absolutely loving this pregnancy because I know it's our last. Also, my two pregnancies have been exactly the same, but I'm having a boy this time around so I'm starting to think that a lot of the old wive's tales aren't as accurate as I was thinking/hoping... :) Looking forward to hearing more about this little one!
Congratulations! I'm pregnant with my second child and am about 13 weeks and everything you described has been what I've been feelings: super tired and depressed especially the first month or so and crazy breakouts. I'm hoping to feel better in a couple of weeks. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou are so beautiful! Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. & omg, your post from 16 weeks with Henry, you were SO tiny. I can imagine being so healthy & finally having a tiny tummy bump would be weird, though. So many people are pregnant right now ...it's definitely that season. Not that time for me yet. ;)
ReplyDeleteI already have baby fever and reading your post isn't helping anything!!

Definitely a baby boom! I know so many pregnant people right now (or people who just had babies) it's borderline ridiculous! One of my best friends is 7 weeks and I *just* found out Saturday I'm pregnant and around 5 weeks. It's so surreal. I'm still in a state of shock, it's hard to believe (this is my first)! I'm so excited to be following along for your 2nd (I was following before Henry was even known!). It's definitely comforting having all these pregnant Mama's around!
ReplyDeleteCute bump! I'm expecting too!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on week 16! Have you started to feel flutters at all yet? I'm currently in my 21st week and it's absolutely thrilling and exciting!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to find out what you're having! I really think it will be a girl, but like I said I never guess correctly! Each person and baby are so different so I can't use all the similarities between us as a basis for my guess but still... there are just so many! My chest didn't grow until the very end with Henry, but this time it doubled quite early... I never thought of all of that being estrogen related? But who knows, because sure enough there is a little girl in there! All of the exhaustion was 2039403928 times worse for me too, but I guess I figured because it's my second go around, and that's just a lot of work for body, also while being consumed with a busy toddler. This month should hurry so we can all find out :)
ReplyDeletei'm expecting too! i'm 21 weeks along, and definitely much MUCH bigger but excited all the same. we're expecting a little girl this time around and couldn't be happier. we're really looking forward to seeing the relationship develop between siblings, so exciting!
ReplyDeleteagain, congrats to you and your little family! it's such a miracle that we're able to bring life into this world. c:
Expecting, adn 18 weeks along :-)
ReplyDeleteI looove seeing people's pregnancy updates even more than I used to because I'm expecting too. I'm due in July and we found out we are having a little boy. I'm super excited. I will be 22 weeks tomorrow and I wish my energy would fully come back. Most days I'm functional but today I slept almost the entire day. I couldn't believe it! Pregnancy is exhausting.
ReplyDeleteAs a queer and genderfluid person, I am so sick of pregnancy posts talking about how they can't WAIT to see if their baby will be a boy or a girl (newsflash: there are more than two genders) so that they can decide how to decorate. KNOCK IT OFF WITH THE GENDER FACTORY LINE OF BLUE/PINK, BOY/GIRL. Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI didn't once mention blue or pink did I? I am completely excited about finding out if we are having a girl or a boy because I have specific things I will be decorating with depending on either. And that is OKAY. I'm fully aware that things aren't so black and white, and in my last post I also touched on the fact that sex is determined in the womb but gender is socially constructed. If you read my blog at all you know that I support the LGBTQ community. Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to judge.
DeleteI am so, so excited to see your bump! WOW!
ReplyDeleteMy girl is on her way any day now! I was due the 4th so hopefully she gets on out here soon! ;) It is our first and I am so so excited. Can't wait to find out what you're having and glad to hear you're feeling better!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo! I am 15 weeks along with our third baby and we are all so excited! I feel you on the lack of energy: I'm lucky if I am able to stay awake past 8 pm these days~
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a baby boom going on right about now and I'm just a tad bit jealous I'm not in on it (yet?) lol. Glad you're gaining your energy back though. I was tired throughout the entire pregnancy with my daughter and I hated it! Literally all I did was sleep and walk in the mall too keep cool (lived in Phoenix at the time and pregnant + Phoenix summer = don't mix lol).
ReplyDeleteI'm still so excited for you though! I remember when I was pregnant was when I first made the move to blogger and your blog was one of the very first I followed and I loved reading your blog when you were pregnant with Henry (still do of course lol).
Anyhow I'll end this novel of a comment now. :)
♥Jazmyn
I'm going to go ahead and put my vote in that you're having another boy!
ReplyDeleteWith my first baby (I was 24) I did not show until I was around seven months. With my second baby (I was 43) my boobs were so huge by 8 weeks several people asked if I had work done on them. Definite baby boom. But I am not sure if that is just because in my heart I am hopeful for another chance.

How exciting to know that by next month you will know if you are having a boy or girl! Your little baby belly is just precious!

Not expecting, but have been trying for number one for over a year!! Crossing my fingers (and toes, eyes, legs...)
ReplyDeleteYou look absoloutely beautiful. xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm expecting! 27 weeks at the moment :) Congratulations, Dani!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awareness. Quality subject to dwell upon.

I'm not expecting (at least I don't think so) but you look adorable!
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, are you bummed that AshLee is off The Bachelor? Who are you rooting for? I posted my recap this week - I'm now Team Catherine and I'm guessing that Desiree will be the next Bachelorette. :)
The Brayn of Chalayn
Oh my goodness, this blogger baby boom is driving me crazy! I would loooooove to be going for the second one but I should probably give my body/self/daughter more time before I jump on the baby-train.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking so cute!
And I read one of the comments above about how all your veteran-mamas thought you were probably funny when you were talking about the 'bump' early on, I was the same because I was SO excited to see any changes at all so I could really start to see what was going on inside! As a been-there and done-that mama now I think it is really cute to see first-timers oohing and ahhing over the experience and insisting they have a bump at 8 weeks, hehe. I'm sure your veteran-mamas thought the same. :3
It is just such a cool experience and I am so excited to do it all again when my time comes!
Your little baby belly is the cutest! There are so many bloggers that are having babies, it is crazy! My childhod best friend is also due in May!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know where you got your dress! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :) It's from Forever 21.
DeleteCuteness! Also loving the dress.
ReplyDeleteWe're 24 weeks pregnant with baby number three, and it feels like this pregnancy is going slowest out of them all - I think because the kids are so excited to have baby here with us too, and ask me every single day how long it is until baby is here. Also Miss 4 is very annoyed that we've chosen to have a surprise (again) and sees it as a very cruel trick we are playing just to make her miserable.
I'm finding my bump is enormous this time around, perhaps my poor muscles are so stretched from the other two that they can't even begin to hold this one up and in?!
Anyway, you look gorgeous. It's so nice to look back on pregnancy photos afterwards, it all seems so odd and surreal that you ever looked like that, and that your body nurtured and carried this actual little person.
xoxo
I'm 24 weeks now and expecting my first, a baby boy, in the end of June :) I totally agree with the sentiment that it feels like a miracle that our bodies can grow and nurture a baby. I'm in awe of what my body is doing every day as my baby grows stronger and larger. Good luck on your pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteI'm posting quite a bit about my pregnancy too on my blog if you are interested in a fellow preggo lady :) - www.thelittlekicks.com
I've been following your blog for a long time and trying to get pregnant for 3 years. Watching Henry grows was a pleasure. I'm 12 weeks pregnant right now and so happy about it! The first 10 weeks were harder because of all the fertility hormones I had to take as a supplement, but those days are over and i'm feeling great going to bed at 8 almost every night.
ReplyDeletecongrats on baby no.2
Cath
Hello- I started reading your blog more recently and I just wanted to say I love reading! Also, we are kind of due date buddies.... I am a smidge further along but this is my first pregnancy. I am 17 weeks tomorrow and due August 16th! Congrats you look adorable!
ReplyDeleteMe me me! I'm expecting our first, due at the end of August. I'm so excited to be able to follow along with one of my favorite bloggers - I'm just about a week behind you! We actually found out at our 13wk ultrasound that it's probably a BOY. The tech gave us about 80% odds. You look adorable, by the way!
ReplyDeletecongratulations to you. :) i'm 23 weeks with my first - a girl.
ReplyDeleteYou're gorgeous and I love reading your pregnancy posts. I have followed your blog for a while. I am 19.5 weeks with my first, a girl. We just found out yesterday. I too had issues with my skin, but I have been craving lots of chocolate and sweets.... Good luck to you. I look forward to reading more about your second pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteI'm due April 25th! Love reading others perspectives on pregnancy
ReplyDeleteI felt a tiny bit (okay, a lot!) depressed during the first part of my second pregnancy, too! Excited as I was for baby number two, I couldn't help but feel sad and a little guilty for my baby Henry, who had no idea how much his life was going to change. He was a little over a year when we found out we were expecting again, and until then, that sweet boy had been the center of my universe (and I his). I couldn't imagine anything different, and it made me SO incredibly sad! But one day, all of a sudden, it passed. I couldn't wait for baby Jack to arrive and meet his big brother, and for us to be a happy little family of four. Now, seeing how much Henry loves his baby brother makes my heart melt every day. It is THE sweetest thing. So excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog for years now, since I was pregnant with my first son (who is 2 now). I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my second boy :) Very excited for the new addition and share a lot of the same feelings as you in regards to the second. There is DEFINITELY a baby boom going on right now. I have 2 friends who are currently pregnant, and 2 who just had babies. Best of luck to you and your little family! I will enjoy keeping up with all your news!
